Materials Resource Center, ARC's latest and most ambitious program, is dedicated to waste reduction through reuse. We obtain scrap and surplus materials of all sorts from companies with overstock or unwanted inventory, and make them available for a nominal fee to teachers, parents, community organizations, and the general public.

Since 1999, our wide variety of materials have been used for art and craft projects, theatrical productions, exhibits, children's activities, and educational purposes.

MRC is sponsored by the Town of Islip and has been funded in part by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Special thanks goes to the Rauch Foundation, the Sandy River Charitable Foundation, and the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation for their very generous support. Additional thanks for their support goes to the Long Island Community Foundation, the Long Island Unitarian Universalist Fund, the Roslyn Savings Foundation, and the Dellecave Educational Institute and Foundation.

Volunteer at the MRC

There are two ways you can help the MRC continue to grow:
1.) Volunteer to serve on our Board of Directors. - We are seeking people currently or previously associated with schools to represent educational interests. Meetings are once a month. Please email Julie at julie@materialsresourcecenter.org for more information.

2.) Help sort and display incoming materials. - Spend a few hours a week with hands-on help processing donated materials. Naturally, as a member of our team you will receive a volunteer membership to shop at half price (not to mention have first pick of newly donated items!) Please email Matthew at matthew@materialsresourcecenter.org for more information.
