Children's Workshops

Students learn the art of reuse to help save resources through hands-on arts and crafts activities using an assortment of materials from the Materials Resource Center. The materials include wood, mat board, cardboard, fabric, stickers, sticky paper, tissue, tubes, string, yarn, buttons, polyfoam blocks, plastic items, and anything else appropriate for creative learning. Children will be encouraged to stack, sort, draw, cut, glue, shape, and combine. Letting them play freely with the materials is the most exciting way for them to discover their self-expression.

The price is based on the number of children in a typical 45 minute session. Per child the cost is $3.00 for the staff and $1.00 for the materials, with a minimum of $150 per session or $500 for four sessions per day.

If you have any questions or to schedule an appointment you can reach, Julie Sullivan at 631-580-7290.

Professional Development Workshops

Professional Development Workshops

Experience professional development and in-service workshops on the topic of creative reuse in the classroom. The Materials Resource Center’s Reuse Mobile will bring materials to your school along with ideas on how you can develop your own creative style. In this four or five hour workshop you will learn about reuse in different cultures, in crafts, in teaching aids and in school activities. Teachers will create projects, share them with each other and receive sufficient supply of material for in-school application. The workshops and projects will address all NYS Learning Standards.

Scrap2Art Workshop's hands-on professional development workshops and courses are designed for early childhood/primary grade teachers, paraprofessionals, curriculum coordinators, special education teachers, ESL teachers, and teachers of the gifted and talented to help develop and support enriched environments in which children and adults are actively engaged in the learning process. The workshops focus on the rationale of using a large array of materials as an ideal learning tool in the early childhood, elementary, middle and high school curriculum. Participants experience the joy and intensity of learning as they work with a variety of objects and expand and refine their own curriculum ideas.

Call Materials Resource Center 631-580-7290 or 757-0894 to schedule.
